Get out a piece of paper and just start doodling, for those of you who are intimidated by the free hand mehndi, stencils are a good alternative and just a blast to play with. Another way to practice is to make up a little batch of baking soda and water, getting to a consistency of toothpaste. Put it in your desired applicator and play with it. You can also use real toothpaste if you desire. The real henna paste will be similar to a smooth mud, at a toothpaste like consistency.
